Strasbourg has officially confirmed the signing of USMNT midfielder Gio Reyna. Reports suggest the French club paid a fee of approximately $4 million to secure the attacking midfielder, who has signed a contract keeping him at the club through 2031.
This move marks a fresh start for the 21-year-old, who struggled during his time in Germany. Last season at Borussia Monchengladbach, Reyna was limited by recurring muscle issues, managing just 520 minutes of play across 19 appearances with one goal and one assist to his name.
«Gio is an excellent player who unfortunately only showed glimpses of his potential during his year at Borussia and was unable to consistently demonstrate his ability on the pitch due to a number of injuries. We have therefore come to the joint conclusion that going our separate ways this summer is the right step for both sides». Rouven Schroder, Borussia Head of Sports
Despite his club-level challenges, Reyna remains a key part of the USMNT setup. He featured in all five matches for the USA at this summer's World Cup, including scoring in their 4-1 opening victory over Paraguay.
Strasbourg is now looking ahead to their Ligue 1 campaign, which kicks off on August 21 against Marseille. The club has scheduled pre-season friendlies against Freiburg and Newcastle to prepare for the new season.
