Gateshead have officially sacked manager Lee Cattermole following a dismal run of results in the National League. The decision comes after Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Worthing, which marked a seventh consecutive loss across all competitions.
Assistant manager Martin Smith has also departed the club. Cattermole, who took charge in June on a two-year deal, managed only one win in his 14 games at the helm, suffering 11 defeats in the process. The team currently sits at the bottom of the league table, having secured just four points from their opening 12 fixtures.
The club is also facing a precarious financial situation. Players and staff have not yet received their wages for September. Furthermore, the planned share transfer from majority shareholder Mark Nellist to director Stephen Paylor is in doubt; the club stated that Paylor is unable to provide funding independently, making it unlikely the Independent Football Regulator will approve the move.
Gateshead are now appealing to remaining shareholders for time to secure fresh investment to stabilize their operations, as previous plans involving a third party have failed to materialize.
