Sergio Aguero names Cole Palmer Chelsea's best player
Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has hailed Chelsea star Cole Palmer as 'spectacular' and offered his take on Xabi Alonso's summer recruitment strategy.
Sergio Aguero has shared his admiration for the progress Cole Palmer has made since joining Chelsea. The legendary striker, who played alongside Palmer at Manchester City, described the midfielder as a spectacular talent.
Chelsea are dangerous. I played with Cole Palmer and I love him as a player. I think he’s spectacular. In my opinion, he’s Chelsea’s best player today. He can score or provide an assist at any moment and make the difference. Sergio Aguero
Aguero explained that the move to Stamford Bridge was exactly what Palmer needed to thrive. Having struggled for opportunities under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, Palmer has found a platform in London to showcase his potential, registering four goals and two assists in his first seven appearances this season.
Reflecting on the club's £350m spending spree under Xabi Alonso, which brought in players like Emiliano Martinez and Valentin Barco, Aguero warned that attacking talent alone is not enough. He insisted that a reliable defensive structure is essential to prevent chaotic results.
These are good players, but even if you have an excellent front three, if the team isn’t solid in midfield or defence, the forwards can score three goals and the opposition will score four. You need a reliable structure behind them so that the team doesn’t suffer so much. Sergio Aguero
Following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Brentford, Chelsea look to bounce back this weekend. Alonso's squad will host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, with the team eager to tighten their defense and climb the Premier League standings.
