The World Cup semi-final clash between France and Spain, which ended in a 0-2 defeat for the French, generated massive interest among television viewers. According to Médiamétrie, 20.244 million people watched the broadcast on M6, accounting for a 73% audience share.
This figure represents the highest television audience of the year in France. It is the most significant viewership since the 2022 World Cup final, where France's match against Argentina drew 25.080 million viewers across TF1 and beIN Sports, and the semi-final against Morocco (2-0), which also performed slightly better with an average of 20.7 million viewers on TF1.
It should be noted that these figures from M6 do not yet include the audience from beIN Sports, the pay-TV broadcaster that also aired the game. For context, the quarter-final between France and Morocco on July 9 (2-0) gathered an average of 16.1 million viewers on M6 (72.8% audience share).
