Yuriy Shelepnitsky, the first-ever captain of the Ukraine national team, has shared his impressions following the 2-0 victory over Poland. The former player acknowledged that while the team managed to capitalize on the opponent's errors, the opening stages of the match were challenging.
According to Shelepnitsky, the first 25 minutes were dominated by Poland, who could have easily taken the lead. He emphasized that were it not for the reliable performance of goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, the outcome of the match could have been significantly different.
It is difficult to change anything significantly in just one attempt. It was pleasant to see how the team caught Poland on errors twice, in different phases of the game. The first goal came after a successful tackle and press, and Yaremchuk struck the ball with high quality. For the second goal, the guys organized an exemplary positional attack with a 'Dynamo' flair—the passes and the finish by Yarmolenko were very aesthetic. Yuriy Shelepnitsky
Shelepnitsky also noted that head coach Andrea Maldera has a limited pool of players to work with for immediate tactical adjustments. Currently, the goalkeeping position remains the most stable, with Trubin clearly established as the number one choice.
