Everton captain Megan Finnigan has signed a one-year contract extension with the Women's Super League club. The new deal marks a significant milestone for the 28-year-old defender, who will reach 20 years at the club, including her development within the academy system.

The centre-back spent the entirety of the previous season on the sidelines recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Despite the setback, Finnigan has been working through the off-season to ensure she is prepared for the upcoming campaign.

I am feeling very positive at the minute. I am glad to get this sorted, and recovery-wise I am in a good place. This will be my 20th year at the club and that's special for me. Hopefully it is even more special because it is the season that I make my return. Megan Finnigan

Since making her senior debut in 2015, Finnigan has accumulated over 200 appearances for the club. Her extension provides stability as she prepares to make her competitive return to the pitch.
