The Estadio Akron has officially immortalized its role in the 2026 World Cup. A ceremony was held this Tuesday to unveil a commemorative plaque, marking the stadium's contribution to the international tournament.
The event was led by Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus alongside Chivas owner Amaury Vergara, as well as municipal leaders and FIFA representatives. For Amaury Vergara, the plaque carries profound personal significance, as it represents the realization of a major goal held by his late father, Jorge Vergara, who envisioned the facility as a world-class venue from its inception.

Guadalajara Mayor Verónica Delgadillo highlighted the success of the host city, crediting the local hospitality and the collaborative efforts of the organizing team. Governor Pablo Lemus noted that the city's performance during the event has paved the way for future ambitions, with discussions already underway to bring more international sporting events to Jalisco.
The state government is currently working with the Mexican Football Federation and Chivas to secure future competitions, including both continental and world-scale events, aiming to solidify Guadalajara’s reputation as a top-tier international host.
