Following his high-profile £116m summer move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, expectations for Elliot Anderson have been immense. The 24-year-old, who established himself as a key figure for England under Thomas Tuchel, is now looking to cement his place in the City squad.
Manager Enzo Maresca views Anderson as the team's new number six. The player himself admits the role requires a shift in style: "I've got to be a bit more structured, that's what I'm learning, to stay in my position. At Forest, I was doing a little bit more." Although he has recorded only one goal and two assists in 14 matches, teammate Erling Haaland has praised his impressive start.
Anderson's underlying statistics remain elite: he leads the team in fouls won (28), sits second in duels won (66), and ranks third in successful passes (610). While his physicality and ball-winning ability are evident, opponents have begun to exploit his aggressive pressing, pulling him out of his defensive midfield position.
City management is hoping for a development in positional discipline similar to the evolution Rodri underwent under Pep Guardiola. For now, the club is pleased with his quality, and the midfielder is set for a warm reception as he returns to the City Ground to face his former club this Saturday.
