Edu leaves Nottingham Forest as contract terminated

The Brazilian executive has officially left Nottingham Forest just over a year after joining the club as global head of football to lead their multi-club project. The departure follows a period of extreme instability and a lack of involvement from the executive in recent months.

Edu had been effectively sidelined since February and had not visited the City Ground or training facilities since March, when reports of his impending exit first surfaced. Forest do not intend to appoint a direct replacement, as Chief Football Officer George Syrianos has already assumed expanded responsibilities following the Brazilian's prolonged absence.

His tenure at the club was defined by significant friction and a managerial merry-go-round. After an initial push for European football, the team collapsed into a relegation battle, triggering a chain of coaching changes including Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and Vitor Pereira, before Oliver Glasner arrived. Recruitment also came under heavy fire, with high-profile signings like Omari Hutchinson, Douglas Luiz, and Oleksandr Zinchenko failing to provide the expected impact.

This difficult spell marks a stark departure from the reputation Edu built during his successful time in North London. Having previously served as technical and sporting director at Arsenal, where he worked closely with Mikel Arteta, this exit represents a low point in a career that also included administrative roles with Corinthians and the Brazil national team.
