Manchester City knew about Premier League financial verdict before summer spending
Manchester City leadership was informed of the independent commission's findings in July but proceeded with a major transfer campaign worth over £450 million.

The leadership of Manchester City was reportedly informed about the independent commission's verdict regarding Premier League financial rule breaches back in July. While the results, which cited over 100 counts of misconduct, were only made public on September 25, the club had been aware of the decision months earlier.
Despite this knowledge, the club remained highly active in the transfer market. During the summer window, they signed seven key players, with total expenditure exceeding £450 million. The club twice broke its own transfer record, first by acquiring Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and later by securing Enzo Fernández from Chelsea for a British record fee.
It is worth noting that the deal for Anderson was agreed upon on July 2, prior to the club being informed of the commission's decision. However, the majority of the subsequent moves were finalized after the club had received the internal briefing regarding the verdict.
The investment has yielded immediate results on the pitch. Manchester City has started the campaign with seven wins in seven matches across all competitions, currently topping the Premier League table three points ahead of the reigning title contenders Arsenal.
