Crisis at Coapa: Club America hits 15-year winless streak in Clasicos

Club America is currently facing a situation that is rare for the club, as they navigate their worst run in Clasicos in over 15 years. The team has failed to secure a victory against their primary rivals — Pumas, Chivas, or Cruz Azul — in eight consecutive official matches.

A similar drought last occurred between 2010 and 2011, when the team went seven matches without a win before finally defeating Pumas in May 2011. The current crisis has now surpassed that historical benchmark; when including friendly matches, the winless streak extends to eleven games.

The pressure is mounting for head coach Guillermo Almada. Should the team fail to win their upcoming match against Pumas, he will become the first America coach since 2011 to go winless in his first three Clasicos.

The team is now preparing for their visit to Pumas this Saturday. A victory would not only end this difficult streak but also provide a significant boost to their campaign in the Liga MX standings.
