The future of Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz at this season's final Grand Slam, the US Open, remains uncertain. Sidelined for nearly four months due to a right wrist injury, his return now hinges entirely on his participation in the Cincinnati Masters 1000, which begins on August 13.
Former world number four Greg Rusedski has labeled the American tournament as the definitive test for the Spaniard. Speaking on the Off Court podcast, Rusedski insisted that if Alcaraz intends to compete in New York, the Cincinnati event is non-negotiable.

Alcaraz has been inactive since April 15, when he suffered the injury during his opening match at the Barcelona Open. The setback caused him to miss a string of major events, including Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, Queen's, Wimbledon, and the Canada Masters 1000.
While Alcaraz is currently on the entry list for Cincinnati, his appearance is not guaranteed. Rusedski emphasized the importance of a cautious recovery, warning against a rushed comeback. He urged the player to focus on a gradual increase in training intensity rather than forcing a return before he is fully prepared.
