Celtic and USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has rejoined the squad for pre-season training following a long spell on the sidelines. The defender suffered a severe Achilles rupture in October 2025, which kept him out of action for much of the campaign.
Reflecting on the injury, Carter-Vickers explained that he initially mistook the pain for a simple cramp. However, medical assessment revealed the severity of the situation, leading to a long-term recovery process that involved weeks of immobilization.
I’m good, and I’m just happy to be back with the team and out here on pre-season. At first, I thought I had cramp in my calf. When the physios saw it, they said it was a rupture in the Achilles. At that point you know it’s going to be a long-term injury. Cameron Carter-Vickers
The defender is currently focused on rebuilding his match fitness during the club's training camp in Dublin. While he participated in light sessions towards the end of last season, he notes that full-intensity training is essential for getting back into the rhythm of competitive football.
Carter-Vickers has been a pivotal figure for Celtic since his permanent move in 2022, accumulating 172 appearances. His return is viewed as a massive boost for the club as they look to build on their previous successes and prepare for the upcoming campaign.
