Arsenal's backroom shake-up continues as the club confirms the departure of head of sports science and performance, Tom Allen. This exit follows a comprehensive internal review of the club's medical and performance departments as the Gunners seek to refine their approach to player availability and conditioning.

Allen, who joined from Aston Villa in 2017, concludes a nine-year tenure at the Emirates Stadium. His departure comes shortly after the surprise exit of head of medical, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, last month, marking another significant change within Mikel Arteta's backroom staff.

The overhaul was prompted by a rigorous internal review of the club's recent injury record. To address persistent fitness issues that have impacted key players, the club hierarchy brought in Spanish physiotherapist Joaquín Acedo to conduct an independent assessment. The goal is to modernize preventative strategies and elevate the medical department to elite standards.

In addition to Allen, lead physical performance coach Sam Wilson is also moving on. Wilson, a popular figure at the club, concludes a 12-year stint at Arsenal and is reportedly expected to continue his career at a club in Europe.

Arteta’s high-octane tactical approach places heavy physical demands on his squad, particularly given his preference for tighter rotation. As the club looks to build on their recent Premier League title success, they are prioritizing the mitigation of injury risks that previously sidelined players like Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Ødegaard.
