Arsenal have failed in their attempt to overturn the disciplinary action taken against their young prospect Max Dowman. Disciplinary authorities have rejected the club's appeal regarding the straight red card issued during the Carabao Cup tie against Fleetwood Town.
The incident occurred in the 85th minute, when the 16-year-old winger reacted to a challenge by lashing out with his leg. Despite minimal contact, the referee deemed the action aggressive behavior, which carries a mandatory three-match suspension under football regulations.
This marks Dowman's second dismissal this month, following a similar incident while playing for England U-19s. Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his frustration with the player's lack of composure post-match.
When we prepared for the context of this match, we were very clear about what to avoid and what emotions we must dominate. Everything was explained very clearly. Mikel Arteta
The suspension comes at a difficult time for Arsenal, deepening their injury crisis on the flanks. With Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis, and Noni Madueke already sidelined, the team faces a depleted lineup ahead of Sunday's high-stakes trip to Liverpool.
