The Algerian Football Federation has formally complained to FIFA regarding the officiating of Polish referee Szymon Marciniak during their recent Group J encounter against Argentina in Kansas City. The federation has highlighted specific challenges that they believe warranted stronger disciplinary action.
According to reports, the grievance focuses on a 30th-minute tackle where the Argentina captain caught Aissa Mandi with studs raised. Additionally, the federation pointed to an incident involving Alexis Mac Allister, who allegedly struck Ibrahim Maza with an elbow, which remained unpunished by the officiating crew.
It’s pointless commenting on hypothetical situations, but everyone saw it, including me. Vladimir Petkovic
Algeria head coach Vladimir Petkovic expressed significant frustration regarding the lack of disciplinary measures on the pitch. Despite the controversy, the match was highlighted by a historic performance from the Argentine captain, who marked his 200th international cap with a hat-trick, equalling Miroslav Klose’s tournament record of 16 goals.
FIFA has yet to respond to the inquiry, but the Algerian federation remains aggrieved by the perceived lack of protection for their players. Argentina is now shifting its focus toward upcoming group fixtures against Austria and Jordan, aiming to secure qualification while managing the external fallout from the match.
