Winger Noni Madueke has revealed he played a key behind-the-scenes role in securing Ezri Konsa's move to Arsenal. The 28-year-old centre-back joined the Gunners in a £55m deal, committing to a four-year contract.
Madueke, who has played alongside Konsa for the England national team, admitted he used their friendship to help steer the defender toward north London. He expressed his excitement about the reunion and his belief that the club provides an ideal environment for his teammate.
Ezri is a great friend of mine first and foremost. We’ve played with each other for England now for a couple of years. I’m delighted that he’s here, he’s a great player and I know he’s going to be a great addition, not only to the team but around the building. I can’t wait to see what we’re going to achieve together. For Arsenal, the signing marks a significant boost as they begin their Premier League title defense. Fresh off a Community Shield victory over Manchester City, the squad appears to be in high spirits as they look to build on last season's historic domestic success.
Konsa is expected to make his competitive debut on Monday night when the champions travel to face his former club, Aston Villa. Despite the hosts' difficult summer and recent heavy defeat, Madueke emphasized that the team remains cautious of the challenge posed by Unai Emery’s side at Villa Park.
