England manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that defender Ezri Konsa has been released from the international squad. The player has returned to his club, Arsenal, to receive specialist care for two separate fitness issues encountered during the international break.
Although Konsa played in the 7-0 win over Croatia, Tuchel clarified that the decision to send him home was precautionary. He emphasized that the issues are not related to muscle tears or structural damage, but rather the result of physical contact on the pitch during matches.
Ezri felt discomfort when he came into camp, played with discomfort against Spain and it got a bit worse. He left camp to get treatment for both of his issues now but I think nothing major but not worth the risk taking. Thomas Tuchel
The update will be of concern to Arsenal fans, with William Saliba already sidelined with a back problem. However, there is some positive news for the Gunners' defensive depth, as Ben White and Jurrien Timber are nearing full fitness, while Cristian Mosquera continues his rehabilitation.
