Wrexham have agreed an £8m deal to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, marking a new club-record transfer fee.
Wrexham are continuing their ambitious recruitment drive ahead of the new Championship campaign, having reached an agreement with Sunderland for the transfer of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson for £8 million.
This landmark fee establishes a new record for the club, surpassing the previous high of £7.5 million spent on striker Nathan Broadhead last year. Following the acceptance of the bid, Patterson has been granted permission to hold talks regarding personal terms and undergo a medical.
Patterson, a product of the Sunderland youth system, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Millwall, where he made 16 appearances. His arrival at the Racecourse Ground will intensify the competition for the starting spot, joining a goalkeeping roster that already features Danny Ward and Arthur Okonkwo.
The move is a strategic effort to address defensive vulnerabilities, as the team conceded 65 goals during the previous campaign.
