Wesley departs Brazil squad due to injury
After suffering a thigh injury during a friendly, Wesley has been ruled out of the World Cup and is returning to Roma for recovery.
Defender Wesley has officially departed the Brazil national team training camp. The player sustained a muscle injury to his left thigh during the friendly match against Egypt, which Brazil won 2-1.
Following an MRI scan, the injury was confirmed as a grade 3 muscle tear. Estimates suggest the recovery process will keep him out of action for approximately six weeks. On Monday, June 8, the player is returning to his club, Roma, to continue his treatment.
The severity of the injury has led to a squad change, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson called up as a replacement. On Sunday afternoon, before leaving the team hotel in Basking Ridge, Wesley said his goodbyes to his teammates.
The seriousness of the issue was evident during the match in Cleveland, where Wesley was seen visibly upset on the bench and later left the stadium limping. Despite the coaching staff's initial hopes, the medical results necessitated his withdrawal from the World Cup squad.
