Valencia hit the reset button: Carlos Corberan and Ron Gourlay sacked

Valencia CF have announced a major shake-up, confirming the dismissals of head coach Carlos Corberan and CEO of Football Ron Gourlay. The decision follows a disastrous opening to the La Liga campaign, with the team collecting just one point from their first five matches.

The purge extends beyond the manager and CEO, as Valencia also confirmed the departure of the entire sporting structure built by Gourlay. This includes Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andres Zamora, and Malek Shafei.

Corberan’s tenure concludes after 72 official matches. Although he was handed a contract extension through 2028 this past June, the board decided his time was up following a decline in form that left the club in a precarious position.

Financially, the revolution comes at a significant cost, with compensation for the manager and his staff estimated at approximately €6 million. However, the club expects the move to create nearly €4 million in extra Financial Fair Play margin, offering a small boost as owners in Singapore look to appoint a successor capable of managing the immense pressure at the Mestalla.
