Unprecedented punishment: Player suspended until his victim recovers in Brazil
Brazilian judicial authorities have handed down a unique sanction, suspending Internacional defender Victor Gabriel until the player he injured returns to training.

The Supreme Court of Sports Justice in Brazil has issued an unprecedented disciplinary ruling, suspending Internacional defender Victor Gabriel until the player he injured, Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Baeta, returns to normal team training.
The incident occurred during the 19th round of the Brazilian Serie A, a match Cruzeiro won 2-1. During the 13th minute of the second half, Gabriel committed a reckless tackle that resulted in Baeta suffering a fractured leg, an injury that requires surgical intervention.
While standard disciplinary measures for violent conduct typically range from one to six matches, the Sixth Disciplinary Commission deemed this insufficient given the severity of the injury. The judges exercised an extended measure that links the duration of the suspension directly to the recovery timeline of the injured party, capped at a maximum of 180 days.
The ruling deals a significant blow to Internacional, who are currently struggling in 16th place with a four-game losing streak. Victor Gabriel expressed deep remorse during his court appearance, stating he had no intention of causing harm and has been praying for his opponent's recovery.
