Sevilla and Atletico Madrid near loan deal for Obed Vargas

Atletico Madrid midfielder Obed Vargas is nearing a move to Sevilla for the 2026/27 season. Reports indicate that the two clubs are in the final stages of negotiating a loan agreement that will not include a purchase option for the Andalusian side.
The move comes as Atletico Madrid faces significant depth in their midfield, with Diego Simeone having five other options available, including Pablo Barrios, Koke, Morten Hjulmand, Johnny Cardoso, and Rodrigo Mendoza. As a result, the club has prioritized finding consistent playing time for the 21-year-old Mexican international.
By structuring the deal as a loan without a buyout clause, Atletico Madrid retains full control over the player's future. Vargas, who participated in the 2026 World Cup with Mexico, aims to use this opportunity to gain experience in Spanish football and maintain his competitive edge for international duty.
While several clubs such as Getafe, Alaves, Valencia, Real Betis, and Feyenoord had expressed interest in the midfielder, Sevilla emerged as the frontrunner. The transfer is expected to be formalized shortly, provided no last-minute issues arise.
