Gilberto Mora, one of Mexico's most promising young players, is increasingly linked with a move to European football. Following his performance at the World Cup, the 17-year-old Tijuana player has captured the interest of multiple teams abroad, prompting career advice from Argentine legend Sergio Agüero.
Agüero, who broke into the Independiente first team at 15 before becoming a star at Atlético de Madrid, emphasized the importance of staying grounded. He advised the young Mexican to rely on his family and avoid being affected by media praise or criticism.
The first thing is that he continues in the same way and that nothing in the environment defocuses him from his objective. At 17, it is not easy to debut and be in the national team. He needs to rely on his family and not listen to nonsense said by the environment, whether it is that he is very good or that they praise him so much. I think that can be a problem for him in the future. Sergio Agüero
The former Manchester City striker noted that discipline off the pitch is just as critical as performances on it. Agüero believes that if Mora remains focused, he has the potential to join top European clubs, but warned that mistakes at a young age can derail a promising career.
"He has to focus. They are going to want him in any big team. He has to continue this way. He is very young; he has a very long career ahead. We hope he continues like this, because being in the Mexico national team at 17 is something very important," Agüero added.
