Scott Davidson's Shrewsbury Town takeover supported by Brad Friedel

American businessman Scott Davidson is moving closer to completing a takeover of League Two club Shrewsbury Town. The deal, which has been supported by former USA international goalkeeper Brad Friedel, is currently in the final stages of negotiation.

Davidson, a 58-year-old real estate professional, already has experience in British football as a director of Scottish club The Spartans since 2021. He has already received clearance from the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator after passing the necessary owners' and directors' tests.

The acquisition would bring an end to the 30-year tenure of 85-year-old chairman Roland Wycherley. Both Davidson and Friedel are expected to join the club's board once the deal is finalized, which is anticipated to occur within the next few weeks.

Friedel, a veteran of the Premier League with clubs including Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur, has been instrumental in the process. Davidson, who holds a UEFA 'A' licence, aims to leverage his background in both business and club management to help the club progress.
