Real Madrid are leading the chase for Manchester United academy forward JJ Gabriel. The 15-year-old has officially notified the club of his intent to cancel his registration immediately, though United are expected to challenge the request.
Several major European clubs, including Barcelona, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea, are tracking the teenager. However, reports describe Madrid's efforts as particularly strong. The Spanish giants intend to place him directly into Real Madrid Castilla, their reserve team that competes in Spain's third tier.
Sources close to the player suggest frustration with his lack of a clear pathway to the first team at Manchester United. The club maintains they had plans for his development, potentially including a debut in the EFL Cup against Brighton. Currently, Gabriel is not participating in training.
I just think we've got to be really careful of the whole situation. He's a young boy. For me, definitely, and from a club point of view, looking after our younger players - their welfare, their well-being, their exposure - we've got to be really conscious of that in this situation. Michael Carrick
The situation is complicated by registration rules. While his current deal runs until the end of the season, holding an EU passport could allow Gabriel to move to a club within the European Union once he turns 16 this October.
