RB Leipzig midfielder Ezechiel Banzuzi has officially committed his international future to DR Congo. The 21-year-old, who previously represented the Netherlands across several youth levels and earned five caps for the Jong Oranje, has decided to transition his allegiance to the African nation.

The midfielder initially received an approach from the Congolese national team manager in March but opted at the time to maintain his focus with the Dutch Under-21 setup. However, the decision to commit was heavily influenced by the Leopards' impressive campaign at the 2026 World Cup, where they navigated the group stage before being eliminated by England in the knockout rounds.

That historic tournament run proved decisive in securing the Leipzig midfielder's loyalty for future qualifying campaigns. Banzuzi, who moved to Germany in the summer of 2025 on a deal running until June 2030, has established himself as a key figure at the club, making 24 Bundesliga appearances in his debut season.

With his international future settled, Banzuzi is now focusing on a demanding club schedule. Martin Demichelis' side is preparing for their Champions League opener against Como on September 10, followed by a domestic clash against Hamburg three days later.
