During the Gambardella Cup final between PSG and Montpellier, a controversial refereeing decision saw PSG's David Boly dismissed in the 64th minute. The official issued a red card to the wrong player following a foul on Montpellier forward Lacine Megnan-Pavé.

In reality, the foul was committed by Boly's teammate, Samba Coulibaly, who had pulled the opponent's arm. Because Boly was in close proximity when the player went to the ground, the referee incorrectly identified him as the offender.

Despite being reduced to ten men for the remainder of the match, PSG managed to clinch a dramatic 3-2 victory. Mathis Jangeal scored the deciding penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

This marks the first time since 1991 that the club has lifted the Gambardella Cup, representing only their second title in the competition's history.
