Paraguay goalkeeper explains incident with Mbappé after World Cup defeat

Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill has addressed the incident that occurred after the final whistle of the Round of 16 World Cup match against France. Gill threw a ball at Kylian Mbappé's back after the forward ignored his attempt to shake hands.

«I reached out to greet him, but since he didn't pay attention to me, I obviously got irritated. I just did that and then calmed down quickly,» Gill explained in the mixed zone.

During the match, which ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for France, Mbappé scored the decisive goal from a penalty. Despite Gill making several key saves, he could not prevent his team's exit from the tournament.

After the game, Mbappé noted that the Paraguayans played a physically demanding game, referring to it as "dirty football." The French forward stated that his team was prepared for such an approach and was willing to do whatever was necessary to secure the win.

Following this result, France advances to the quarterfinals, where they are set to face Morocco.
