Out of the drop zone! Marco Rose seals first Premier League win
Bournemouth secured a vital 2-0 win over 10-man Sunderland, moving the Cherries out of the relegation zone as Marco Rose claimed his first Premier League victory.
Bournemouth secured their first Premier League victory of the campaign with a 2-0 win over 10-man Sunderland. The result marks a significant milestone for manager Marco Rose, who has claimed his first domestic win since taking charge at the South Coast club.
The afternoon began poorly for the visitors, who trailed and were reduced to ten men within the opening twenty minutes. Kevin Danso struggled to contain Evanilson early on, and in the sixth minute, the striker provided a cross for Marcus Tavernier to head home the opener. Danso’s afternoon went from bad to worse shortly after when he was shown a straight red card for a foul on Evanilson just outside the penalty area.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs kept the scoreline respectable with several crucial saves, notably denying Brazilian winger Rayan. However, Sunderland’s hopes of a comeback were dashed early in the second half when a short back-pass from Omar Alderete allowed Evanilson to round the keeper and slot home the second goal of the match.
For Marco Rose, who replaced Andoni Iraola in the summer, this victory provides a much-needed morale boost. While the club had struggled for consistency in the league, they have enjoyed contrasting success in Europe, winning their opening two Europa League fixtures against Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz. The win lifts the Cherries out of the relegation zone.
Conversely, Sunderland’s struggles on the road continue to mount. The defeat leaves the Black Cats languishing in 19th place with only four points from their opening matches. Having not won in the league since August 30, the club faces a difficult road ahead in their battle for survival.
