Otamendi accuses Rodri of influencing referees after final

Tensions flared in New York after Spain secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final. Following the final whistle, a heated confrontation broke out between Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi and his former Manchester City teammate Rodri.
Otamendi, clearly frustrated by the result, accused the Spanish players of attempting to manipulate match officials ahead of the fixture. He shouted at the midfielder:
You were crying all week [about the refereeing at the World Cup]. You and Laporte, both of you. That’s not right, you were crying with the referees, my friend. Nicolas Otamendi
The animosity stemmed from pre-match comments made by Aymeric Laporte, who publicly questioned the integrity of officiating throughout the tournament. Laporte had argued that aggressive play from opponents, particularly Argentina, was being overlooked, creating a chaotic environment that he felt needed to be controlled by the referee.
Argentina's defeat was compounded by a 93rd-minute dismissal for Enzo Fernandez. The post-match environment was further marred by altercations involving Nahuel Molina and Leandro Paredes, which are now expected to be subject to a formal FIFA disciplinary investigation, potentially impacting the squad for future international fixtures.
