Spain sets world record with 40-match unbeaten run
The Spanish national team has extended its unbeaten streak to 40 matches, setting a new global record for national selections.
The Spain national team continues to dominate international football, extending its unbeaten run to 40 matches in regular time. Following a dominant 4-1 victory over Croatia, Luis de la Fuente’s side has officially set a new standard for consistency in world football.
The last time Spain lost a match in regular time was on March 22, 2024, against Colombia (0-1). Since then, the team has accumulated 29 wins and 11 draws, with three of those draws eventually resulting in Spanish victories after extra time or penalties.
This incredible sequence sees them surpass the previous records held by Italy under Roberto Mancini (38 matches) and Argentina under Lionel Scaloni (37 matches). During this span, Spain has secured both the 2024 European Championship and the 2026 World Cup titles.
While their international record is historic, some club sides have achieved even longer unbeaten streaks. Bayer Leverkusen holds the benchmark with 51 matches between 2023 and 2024, followed by Juventus with 43 matches in 2011-2012. Spain now stands among the elite few to have surpassed the 40-game milestone.
