Nice searching for new sporting director: Three main candidates

Following Grégory Lorenzi's decision, Nice is looking at Moncada, Wantier, and Cheyrou to lead the club's sporting restructuring.

Nice is continuing the search for a new sporting director to succeed Florian Maurice. After Grégory Lorenzi declined the position, club executive Maurice Cohen has ramped up the search. The incoming director will face a significant challenge: optimizing the wage bill by offloading high earners and rebuilding the squad under strict budgetary constraints.

Currently, the club has identified three main targets. The first is Geoffrey Moncada, who recently left his role as technical director at AC Milan. The 39-year-old recruitment specialist has already entered initial talks with the Nice management.

The second candidate is David Wantier, currently employed by Auxerre. He is known for his ability to achieve results with limited financial resources, which fits the club's current requirements. However, Wantier remains active in his current role and has existing commitments to his club's ownership.

The third name is Bruno Cheyrou. The former player, who left Lyon in 2023, is currently working with FIFA and serves as a television consultant. Additionally, Cohen has not ruled out bringing back Roger Ricort in an advisory role. The final decision will depend heavily on the club's financial outlook, which will become clearer following the conclusion of the promotion/relegation playoffs.
