Paris Saint-Germain have kicked off their season in style by lifting the UEFA Super Cup for the second consecutive year. Luis Enrique's side secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday, claiming the first piece of silverware of the new campaign.
Midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery produced an impressive performance to help guide the French champions to glory. Speaking after the match, the young star praised the collective spirit within the squad and the influence of head coach Luis Enrique.
You know, finals are always hard to win. What can I say? This team is simply magnificent. We have to keep going. There’s another trophy out there for us to win. We’re starting the season well, and that’s the most important thing. Warren Zaire-Emery
Zaire-Emery insisted that the team remains completely driven to add more titles to their collection, crediting the manager for instilling a ruthless winning mentality throughout the dressing room.
When there are trophies to be won, we’re there. Like you said, we’re never satisfied. We try to convey all those emotions - and the coach does too - so it’s a truly great team, we’re experiencing great things. Warren Zaire-Emery
With the Super Cup secured, attention now shifts to domestic competition. PSG face Lens in the Trophee des Champions on August 16, before beginning their Ligue 1 title defence at home against Rennes on August 23.
