Monterrey close to signing Chicago Fire striker Hugo Cuypers

Management at Monterrey is in advanced negotiations with Chicago Fire to finalize the arrival of striker Hugo Cuypers. The Mexican club has already reached a personal agreement with the Belgian forward, leaving only the final details between the clubs to be settled before an official announcement.

The 29-year-old center-forward built his reputation in European football with spells at Standard Liege, Olympiacos, Mechelen, and Gent, where he established himself as one of the top scorers in the Belgian league. In 2024, Cuypers moved to Chicago Fire as a record signing for the MLS side, eventually earning recognition as an MLS All-Star in 2026.

Monterrey views Cuypers as the ideal candidate to strengthen their offensive line ahead of the Apertura 2026 tournament. The negotiations, led by Dennis Te Kloese and Walter Erviti, are expected to conclude successfully in the coming days, bringing a player with extensive international and MLS experience to Matías Almeyda's squad.
