Michael O'Neill signs four-year contract extension with Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill has signed a four-year contract extension to keep him in the role until 2032.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill has extended his stay with the national team, signing a new four-year contract that keeps him in the job until 2032.

The 56-year-old, who has managed the side for a record 104 games, remains committed to the project. O'Neill previously led the team to their first major tournament appearance in 30 years during the 2016 Euros.

This is a role that means a great deal to me. I continue to believe strongly in the potential of this group of players and the direction we are moving in. There is a lot of work ahead, but I am excited by the future. Michael O'Neill

Earlier this year, O'Neill balanced his duties with an interim role at Blackburn Rovers. However, it was confirmed earlier this month that he would not be taking the Blackburn position on a permanent basis.

The manager is now looking to rebuild with his young squad following the play-off defeat to Italy that ended hopes for the 2026 World Cup. The team will play friendlies against Guinea on June 4 and France on June 8, serving as preparation for the upcoming Nations League campaign starting in September.
