Argentine forward Mauro Icardi could have returned to Serie A this summer, but Napoli rejected the opportunity citing a mismatch with their sporting plans.

Forward Mauro Icardi had the opportunity to return to the Italian Serie A after the conclusion of last season. According to journalist Nicolò Schira, the 33-year-old Argentine was offered to Napoli back in August.
However, the club's management and coaching staff decided not to pursue the option. They ultimately declined the transfer because Icardi did not align with the team's long-term sporting strategy.
Icardi is well-versed in Italian football, having previously starred for Inter Milan. He spent the last several years with Galatasaray, playing for the Turkish side from 2022 to 2026. During that tenure, Icardi made 129 appearances, scoring 73 goals and providing 23 assists, while securing four Turkish league titles.
