Mauricio Pochettino and U.S. Soccer to discuss future after reflection period
U.S. Soccer and Mauricio Pochettino will reengage in contract discussions following a period of rest after their World Cup exit.

Following the USMNT's exit from the World Cup, the focus has shifted to the future of head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine manager has indicated that he is not ready to make immediate decisions, preferring to take time to rest and reflect on the recent tournament.

U.S. Soccer released a statement aligning with Pochettino's stance, noting that they had positive conversations before the tournament and are committed to continuing these discussions after a period of reflection. The federation expressed significant respect and gratitude for the work done by Pochettino and his staff, while acknowledging the substantial effort still required to reach their long-term ambitions.
Pochettino joined the USMNT in the fall of 2024 on a deal that ran through the World Cup. While he has previously expressed an interest in a potential return to the Premier League, he has remained open to staying with the U.S. national team if the conditions are right.
Prior to the tournament, U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson confirmed that both parties had engaged in extensive talks regarding the next four-year cycle. With the World Cup now concluded, these discussions are expected to resume once the initial emotions of the exit have settled.
