Having been active in the club's internal politics for years, Marcelo is viewed by many as a unifying candidate capable of bringing together different sectors of the opposition. This comes as a notable shift from the situation surrounding Rogério Caboclo, who previously considered a run but withdrew due to internal political resistance and controversies from his time at the CBF.
The potential candidate carries the name of his father, who served as São Paulo president from 2002 to 2006. During his father's tenure, the club celebrated significant successes, including the Copa Libertadores title and the 2005 Club World Cup.
