Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has commented on his side's first defeat of the 2026/27 season. In the 4th round of Serie A, the Turin club fell to a 2-3 loss against Sassuolo, conceding the deciding goal in stoppage time.

The coach believes his team had enough opportunities to win, but lost their tactical shape in the closing minutes while pushing for a third goal. The match was highly dramatic, with four of the five goals scored after the 80th minute.

«It hurts because the team could have snatched the win at the end and deserved to turn the game around, but we clearly lost our balance, and this should not have happened. When eight players went forward in attack, huge gaps opened up behind us». Luciano Spalletti

Spalletti took some responsibility for the over-zealous approach, suggesting the players may have taken his instructions to push for a win too literally. He noted that while the intent was positive, the lack of defensive structure at the end was a mistake.

This result marks the first time the Turin side has dropped all three points in the current Italian league campaign. Juventus now has seven points after four rounds of play.
