Liverpool have moved to secure the future of Colombian prospect Samuel Martinez, reaching an agreement with Atletico Nacional. The deal for the 17-year-old attacking midfielder is reported to be worth approximately £740,000, with the player set to sign a five-year contract.

The Reds beat off significant interest from Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona to win the race for the youngster. Martinez rose to prominence during the South American U17 Championship, where he was a pivotal figure in his national team's success, providing three assists during the tournament.

Due to regulations regarding the registration of international players under the age of 18, the transfer will not be formally completed until the summer of 2027. Martinez will continue his development in Colombia with Atletico Nacional's U20 side until he reaches the required age to move to England.

The signing highlights Liverpool's ongoing recruitment strategy of scouting elite talent in South America. Upon his arrival at Anfield, Martinez is expected to integrate into the club's youth academy as part of a long-term plan to build a sustainable talent pipeline for the first team.
