Liverpool and Dominik Szoboszlai close to long-term contract extension
Liverpool have reached an outline agreement to extend the contract of Hungary midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool are closing in on a new long-term contract for Dominik Szoboszlai. Reports indicate an outline agreement is in place following months of negotiations between the club's sporting director Richard Hughes and the representatives of the 25-year-old Hungarian international.
Although the playmaker is currently under contract for another two years, the club has made securing his future a top priority following his consistent displays. Since his 60 million pound move from RB Leipzig in 2023, Szoboszlai has become a cornerstone of the squad. Last season, he achieved a rare milestone for a Liverpool midfielder, reaching double figures in both goals and assists, a feat not seen at the club since Steven Gerrard in 2013-14.
I see myself here in the long term. I love being here. I love the fans. My family is happy. Dominik Szoboszlai
The agreement effectively settles speculation regarding his future and provides a significant boost for new head coach Andoni Iraola. Szoboszlai’s versatility, having played across midfield, on the wing, and even at right-back, makes him an essential piece for the new management’s system.
With the deal nearing completion, the focus shifts to the upcoming pre-season. Szoboszlai is expected to join the squad for their tour of the United States, allowing him to fully integrate into Iraola's tactics as the team prepares for the new campaign.
