Lamine Yamal dreams of World Cup Final against Lionel Messi

Ahead of the 2026 World Cup semi-final against France, Spanish rising star Lamine Yamal has shared his ambitious goal. The young forward admitted that his dream is to face Lionel Messi in the tournament final.

In an interview with DAZN, the player was asked about the famous historical photo showing a young Messi bathing him as an infant. When asked if that photo could turn into a World Cup final, Yamal responded: "Yes, I have grown a little, and I think Leo has too. I hope it happens. I would love to face Messi in a World Cup final."

During a press conference, Yamal was self-critical regarding his performance in the tournament: "Of course I came here to perform. If you (the media) say I am not at my best level, you shouldn't expect anything from me. I play as I know how and I will always give my best for the service of the team."

The Barcelona player is aware that the semi-final will be a difficult task: "It will be a very even match where both teams will have their moments. It is the most important game I will play, without a doubt. We are all very excited, especially me. We are not afraid of France; we are the European champions and I don't feel the pressure."

For his 19th birthday, Yamal knows exactly what gift he wants: "I would gift myself a victory and the chance to go to New York for the final."
