London City Lionesses captain Kosovare Asllani is set to sign a one-year contract extension with the club, despite currently facing a long-term recovery from a serious injury. The Sweden international suffered a complex multi-ligament injury, including an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, back in March.
With her previous deal due to expire this summer, the club has opted to offer the 36-year-old a new agreement to support her rehabilitation. Although it remains unlikely that Asllani will feature on the pitch for the club in the near future, the move ensures she has the necessary resources to work toward a comeback.
The Swedish captain, who has over 200 international caps, is aiming to regain fitness in time for next year's Women's World Cup in Brazil. Asllani has been a pivotal figure during her two-year tenure at London City, playing a key role in the club's rise to the Women’s Super League.
Owner Michele Kang has emphasized her commitment to investing in high-quality medical support for players, and this extension reflects those ambitions. As the team looks to challenge for Champions League qualification, they have also bolstered their squad with several high-profile additions, including Alexia Putellas, Mapi Leon, Mary Earps, Janni Thomsen, and Nicole Anyomi.
