Jefté to miss remainder of season following knee surgery
Palmeiras left-back Jefté is expected to be sidelined until the end of the season after undergoing surgery for a meniscus injury.
Palmeiras left-back Jefté has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. The defender sustained a sprain to his right knee during the Brazilian league match against Chapecoense on May 31.
Subsequent medical examinations confirmed a meniscus injury. The player underwent surgery on Sunday, June 7, with the procedure involving a meniscus suture. Due to the nature of the recovery, the club expects the defender to return to action only at the very end of the season.
Notably, Jefté first reported knee pain on June 1 while at the hospital supporting his wife, who gave birth to the couple's first child early on June 2. Following a brief period with his newborn, the player proceeded with the operation.
With Jefté sidelined, Palmeiras relies on Joaquin Piquerez, who is now fully recovered from his own ankle surgery, as well as the young defender Arthur, who has seen increased playing time during the injury absences within the squad.
