La Liga president Javier Tebas has launched a scathing attack on Real Madrid's official television channel. The league chief expressed his fury over the broadcaster’s consistent efforts to frame the ongoing Negreira refereeing case in a way that suggests current systemic corruption.
Tebas argued that these broadcasts are pushing a dangerous and inaccurate agenda that damages the integrity of the entire league. Despite the deep-seated rivalry between Spain’s top clubs, the league president maintained that spreading false narratives serves no one and only destabilises Spanish football.
What happened was extremely serious and must be investigated to the very end. But it's one thing to investigate facts that ended years ago and quite another to build the narrative in 2026 that Negreira is still influencing Spanish refereeing today. That's an outrage. And repeating it from Real Madrid TV doesn't make it true. Javier Tebas
The league president emphasized that the case is currently handled by the Spanish legal system, which must be allowed to function independently. He questioned the motive behind critics who want La Liga to unilaterally penalize Barcelona before the courts have reached a verdict. According to Tebas, the league will wait for the judicial conclusion before taking any administrative steps.
