Canada's dominant 6-0 victory over Qatar was overshadowed by a serious injury to Ismael Kone. The former Marseille midfielder had to be stretchered off in the 51st minute, leaving his teammates visibly shaken by the severity of the incident.
The 24-year-old Sassuolo player was immediately taken to the hospital following the match. His national team colleague, Nice defender Moise Bombito, quickly visited him, sharing a photo from the hospital room to show his support for his compatriot.
Canada head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed after the match that he heard the bone crack during the incident. Kone is now set for surgery, and it has been confirmed that his home World Cup campaign is over. The midfielder faces a long road to recovery.
