Following the departure of Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid and several failed transfer pursuits, Inter have turned their attention to Tottenham defender Cristian Romero. The Italian champions view the Argentine as an unexpected opportunity to reinforce their squad, despite his contract running until 2029.
Tensions at Tottenham have escalated following comments from manager Roberto De Zerbi, who stated he does not wish to work with players who are not committed to the club. The relationship has been further strained by Romero's decision to seek treatment for a knee injury in Argentina rather than working with the club's medical staff.
Tottenham have already taken precautionary steps in the transfer market, securing Jan Paul van Ecke from Brighton and Marco Senesi from Bournemouth. Inter are reportedly confident that they can secure Romero for approximately €40 million, aiming to avoid complex loan-to-buy formulas.
The race for the defender is far from settled, however. Barcelona and Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, with both clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.
