Galvão Bueno hints at retirement from World Cup broadcasting

The elimination of Brazil by Norway in the World Cup round of 16 may have marked the final curtain call for legendary commentator Galvão Bueno. The 75-year-old, who has covered 14 consecutive tournaments, admitted after the match that he is unlikely to return to the microphone for the 2030 edition.

It is not for me to think about narrating another World Cup at 80 years old. I don't know if I will be here, if I will be well. But it was very good. Of course, I would have liked a better result, for Brazil to have gone a bit further. Galvão Bueno

Before signing off, the commentator expressed his gratitude to the SBT network and the fans who have followed his work throughout the competition. He acknowledged that while criticism is part of the job, the experience of covering the Brazilian national team remained immense.

Bueno holds a Guinness World Record for the most matches commentated in tournament history. If this is indeed his final performance, his coverage of Brazil's 2-1 defeat to Norway stands as the end of an era.
