Gabriel Milito becomes the longest-serving Chivas coach since Matías Almeyda

Gabriel Milito has reached a significant milestone at Chivas, becoming the club's longest-serving head coach since the era of Matías Almeyda. With 436 days in charge and 46 matches managed, the Argentine tactician has achieved a level of continuity that the club has struggled to find over the past eight years.

Since Matías Almeyda left the club in 2018, Guadalajara has cycled through numerous managers, with most projects ending prematurely. Almeyda remains the gold standard for the club, having served for 1,019 days between 2015 and 2018, during which he managed 147 games and secured historic titles.

In the years following Almeyda, Chivas saw a revolving door of coaches, including José Cardozo, Tomás Boy, Luis Fernando Tena, Víctor Manuel Vucetich, and Veljko Paunović. While Vucetich (402 days) and Paunović (409 days) previously held the longest tenures in the post-Almeyda era, Milito has now surpassed both.

Although Milito is still far from the duration of Almeyda's tenure, his longevity marks a shift in the club's direction. The list of managers who followed 2018 also includes Fernando Gago, Arturo Ortega, Óscar García, and Gerardo Espinoza, all of whom had significantly shorter stints.

Milito's continued presence is crucial for the stability of the Chivas project, as the constant turnover of coaches had previously hindered the club's ability to build a long-term strategy. His primary challenge remains to further solidify these results and move the team closer to the competitive standards established during the successful 2015–2018 cycle.
